Open Question: Moving a mattress 250 miles on a pick-up truck; advice and reassurance requested?

So tomorrow I'm driving 250 miles from Michigan to Chicago. We have my mom's pickup truck all loaded up, and I'm kind of freaking out about driving with the mattress shoved into the bed. We have a bunch of boxes/bags of stuff/etc underneath the mattress, then the mattress on top of that with most of it securely in the bed, but the top of it coming up a little (on the rear end of the truck). There is a tarp on top of all of this, tucked in under the mattress to cover it, and four bungee cords securing the whole mess down. The problem is that the mattress is a little too long to fit and be able to close the back panel. The problem with that is that it's sticking up and that is going to probably block most of what I'd be able to see from the rear-view mirror. I figure I'm just going to drive reaaalllyyy slowly and adjust the side mirrors as well as possible, but does anyone have any advice that can be implemented before tomorrow morning (i.e., "use rope in x manner" not "rent a moving truck") or reassuring stories to tell me about how it will all be okay?...
